Joy BC

The Kensington

Joy BC

Joy is a conceptual artist, currently completing a two-year masters in jewellery and metal at the Royal College of Art in South Kensington. Having just finished a three-month residency at the Kyoto University of Art and Design, the oldest art school in Japan, she’s been exploring the materials and philosophies of Japan, and comparing eastern and western ideas.

Joy has a nostalgic connection to Kensington from her childhood, when her mother would bring her to the Victoria and Albert museum. Joy’s mother actually has a piece located in the library there – a hand-printed, dry point etched book that was one of the first to discuss global warming. Today, after a day’s studying, Joy often comes to the hotel for drinks in the K Bar, before a party with friends from the fashion industry.

Kirk Truman & Alexandria Coe

The Bloomsbury

Kirk Truman & Alexandria Coe

Having spent many a weekend enjoying the neighbourhood from his original home, Leicestershire, Kirk eventually moved here when he realised he had already made it his home. Alex lived in Bloomsbury as a student at Chelsea Art School, before landing her first job at the famous department store, Liberty of London. They believe Lamb’s Conduit Street to be the most beautiful street in Bloomsbury.

As the editor and founder of Journal, a free quarterly culture and lifestyle publication focusing on the lives of modern Londoners, and a local photographer training his lens on menswear and lifestyle, Kirk describes himself as an ‘accidental polymath’.  Alex, meanwhile, is an artist and fine art illustrator, with a minimalist style favoring the use of charcoal.

The pair love Bloomsbury for its independent, rebellious and unscathed spirit – and for its welcoming vibe. The Bloomsbury hotel is not only their favourite building, due to its neo-Georgian heritage and Edwin Lutyens design, but also their ‘living room away from home’.

Janice Liverseidge

The Marylebone

Janice Liverseidge

One of London’s hugely knowledgeable, accredited ‘Blue Badge’ guides, Janice has lived and worked in Marylebone for over 25 years. After studying history and politics, her career took in the Financial Times, an array of publishing houses and the Royal Society of Medicine (RSM), which is based in Marylebone. There, enthused by the history of the building, she trained with the Institute of Tourist Guiding, initially to lead tours of the RSM. After falling in love with the area, Janice and her husband were thrilled to find an apartment in a three-storey Georgian townhouse on Chiltern Street from which to cement their love affair. Today, Janice is an enthusiastic champion of Marylebone’s village feel and numerous independent local businesses.

In-house guests can join Janice on our Blue Badge Walking Tour of Marylebone every Friday, beginning in 108 Bar at 9.45am. Uncover the secrets hidden in the area’s maze of side streets – home to a wealth of history as well as some of London’s most beautiful architecture.
