48h Hours in Bristol
Introducing: Briony May Williams
My name is Briony May Williams and I am a TV personality and proud baker, having competed in The Great British Bake Off. Growing up in Bristol I am a very proud Bristolian and love nothing more than showing off this wonderful city to visiting friends. This vibrant and exciting city has so many hidden gems and The Bristol’s harbourside location is the perfect base for a weekend in the city.
The weekend has arrived
The perfect way to kick start a fun-filled weekend is with a trip to Rick’s, top of my list for the cities best mocktails, my tipple of choice being the French Marti-No. I recommend starting your weekend celebrations in this glamorous cocktail bar, chatting to the expert mixologist’s and enjoying some small plates. Toast to the weekend before getting to bed for an early night ahead of a busy weekend of exploring.
A fresh start to the day
Start your Saturday with a peaceful stroll along Bristol’s harbourside, soaking in the early morning charm of the city. Pick up a freshly brewed coffee and a flaky pastry from a local café and savour the moment as the city comes to life. Something fun I love to suggest is hopping aboard one of Bristol’s iconic ferry boats for a quick ride across the harbour (literally 5 minutes!) – it’s a charming experience that’s much loved by Bristolians.
Afternoon Elegance
After your morning adventures, return to The Bristol for a delightful Afternoon Tea at The River Grille. Rest your feet and enjoy this indulgent Saturday treat, with a delicious selection of delicate sandwiches, freshly baked scones and perfect desserts – all paired with a warming cup of tea. A moment of pure relaxation where all you need to ask yourself is, if the cream is added before or after the jam?!
Shop and Stroll
After refuelling take a short taxi ride to the charming neighbourhood of Clifton, a haven for independent shops and cosy coffee shops and bakeries. I love nothing more than strolling its picturesque streets and uncovering treasure in its renowned vintage shops. Don’t forget to pick up some fresh fruit or veg in ‘Reg the Veg’ green grocers, an institution in Bristol.
Savour the Night
After a full day of exploring, I love returning to The River Grille for an indulgent evening meal. Their menu offers something for all and uses the best of local flavours and produce, for me it must be a steak with a selection of sides. The relaxed vibe makes it the ideal place to unwind after a perfect Saturday in Bristol.
The Breakfast Club
It is hard to beat a hotel breakfast and The Bristol’s breakfast buffet does not disappoint. After a peaceful night’s sleep, you best believe I am tucking into all my go-to morning favourites with a freshly brewed coffee, the perfect fuel for a morning of adventure.
A journey through history
Just a short stroll from the hotel, M Shed is one of my favourite family friendly spots in the city. This fascinating museum is free to the public and offers a deep dive into Bristol’s rich history. The exhibits are diverse and engaging with something for everyone. It is the perfect place to learn more about this vibrant city.
The perfect goodbye
Before checking out and heading on your way, I always recommend grabbing a coffee and taking a few quiet moments in The River Lounge, a relaxing spot to reflect on your weekend and perhaps begin planning for your next visit.

And that is it, a perfect weekend in Bristol (in my opinion). I am so proud of my beautiful city and I know there is so much more I can recommend but this is my beginners guide to Bristol with some hidden gems and some of my favourites places. I hope you love Bristol as much as I do.
