Get your last festive fix at Bristol’s Wintry and Wonderful Christmas Markets

Last minute Christmas fix with festive markets in Bristol

Running until 23rdDecember, an iconic German market awaits for your final festive fix. Located just outside The Bristol, this winter wonderland extends from the Harbourside to Bristol’s Shopping Quarter. Take a stroll past rows of wooden chalets selling delightful gifts, delicious food and warming mulled wine.

Bristol Christmas Market

This market is the perfect way to get into the festive spirit, bringing a slice of Germany to Bristol. First off is the Harbourside Christmas Market, where the hundreds of strings of fairy lights and naked lightbulbs are reflected in the shimmering water. This delightful setting houses a winter wonderland, where 50 traditional German chalets sit. Decked out in branches of fir, red and gold baubles, giant candy canes and wreaths, you’ll be feeling festive in no time.

Take a walk to Cabot Circus, who, for the first time are organising and hosting more stalls, stretching all the way through Broadmead to the shopping centre. It is here you can find the perfect last-minute Christmas gift, offering interesting and unique wonders from across Europe. Delight in amaretto-infused coffee beans, large heart-shaped iced gingerbread, cream-filled donuts and delectably rich chocolate truffles. Follow your nose, as you revel in the smells of freshly cooked German sausages and caramelised onion – challenge yourself to eat their foot-long bratwurst hot dogs, something that will definitely warm you up. If sausages aren’t to your taste, perhaps the iconic festive smell of chestnuts will tantalise your taste buds or the sweet scents of crepes with rich melted chocolate.

Then, of course, it’s time for a Christmas tipple. Head over to the Jäger Barn Bar to tuck into an array of German and festive drinks. Opt for something to keep you warm such as a mulled cider or a decadent Baileys hot chocolate – useful for warming those cold fingers too. Heated seating is on offer in the bar and so why not treat yourself to a few pints as you listen to a variety of talented musicians, creating a fun atmosphere to enjoy. From Thursdays to Sundays, live music will keep the festive spirit high.

The much-loved sport of Bavarian Curling is also on offer. Have a go at this team sport, as you aim to shoot a curling stick across the dazzling ice as close as possible to the target centre point. More drinks are served alongside the ice, so you’ll enjoy the experience of losing to your friends that little bit more…

Walking over to the  Bristol’s Harbourside a truly winter wonderland awaits with  an ice skating rink and a big wheel. Marvel in the views of Bristol as it lights up for Christmas atop the wheel before warming up on the ice, as you twist and turn your way across the rink.

Something for the children can be found at every corner. Visit Santa’s Grotto in Quakers Friars where Father Christmas and his elves will greet your little ones with a free gift. There’s just enough time to write a letter to Santa Claus and post it in his letter box located on site to receive a greeting card from Father Christmas himself.
