RUNNING TRAILS

We recommend getting to know the city ahead of the half-marathon, that way there won’t be any nasty surprises halfway through! Luckily, Bristol has lots of great running trails – here are some of our favourites.

1. Harbourside

The Harbourside Sports Trail is one of the city’s most popular routes, offering scenic, panoramic views of the pretty Bristol harbour. It’s a one-mile flat waterside route, measured in distances of 100m, so it’s perfect for anyone looking to closely monitor and build their speed.

2. Totterdown

Totterdown is a short and handy route, at just 3.96km long. It will take you down Wells Road and then in a loop around leafy Redcatch Park.  It’s got a total ascent of 30.7m and max elevation of 75.73km.

3. River Avon Trail

Fancy immersing yourself in nature during your excursion? The gorgeous River Avon Trail runs a total of 23 miles from Bristol to Bath, and is enjoyed by runners, walkers and cyclists of all ages and abilities. As well as taking in all Bristol has to offer, you’ll pass through breathtaking Avon Valley, the historic harbour village of Pill, and the Georgian city of Bath.

THE OFFICIAL HALF-MARATHON ROUTE

Finally, here’s the route itself; be sure to familiarise yourself with it ahead of the big day. You’ll begin on Anchor Road, and continue along the floating harbour at Hotwell Road, and down to the river. You’ll loop back and continue along the scenic River Avon (Cumberland Road) before turning up Wapping Road towards the city-centre, where you’ll loop back down towards the finish line.

TOP TIPS

  • Drink lots of water ahead of race day, and avoid alcohol
  • Check out the route in advance
  • Get there in plenty of time, and ensure you’re starting in the correct section
  • Don’t run if you’re feeling sick – remember, there’ll be other races!
  • Don’t break in new shoes on the day; it will lead to excess chaffing and blisters
  • Pace yourself... don’t over-do it in the first section, you’ll burn out later
  • Don’t forget: your racing chip, race number, iPod / phone, plasters and watch
