A guide for fun family-friendly activities and adventures to keep the kids amused
It’s time for the kids to dig out their school uniforms as the long scorching summer draws to a close. Whilst the back to school blues begin to kick in, there are plenty of ways to keep spirits high during the return to the classroom. We’ve compiled a list of five wonderfully exciting children’s activities to experience around London.
Pedal Boats on the Serpentine
Make the most of the final rays of sunshine this September by taking the kids to Hyde Park, situated a short walk from white stuccoed walls of The Kensington. You can hire a pedal boat up until October 31stso summer outdoor activities can continue until all the leaves have turned brown. Burn off extra energy by pedalling around the stunning Serpentine lake and experience the beautiful views the park has to offer.
The Science Museum
Take a trip to outer space, explore the human body’s inner anatomy and experience new technological gadgets; the Science Museum is a stone’s throw from the Kensington and has a lot to offer. With interactive exhibits, an IMAX theatre and simulators, this free-to-enter museum will keep the kids entertained for hours whilst encouraging an excitement to learn.
Covent Garden Street Performers
Street performances in Covent Garden have been taking place since the 1660s, which all began with a simple marionette show. Amble south from The Bloomsbury and stumble upon the buzzing square where the kids can sit for hours watching magicians, dancers and jaw-dropping stunts.
Shrek’s Adventure! London
An enchanting immersive adventure lasting 75 minutes on the South Bank, this theatrical performance amalgamates your kid’s favourite characters from Dreamworks’ animated film ‘Shrek’. 3D glasses transport the whole family to the fairy-tale land of Far, Far Away with twists and turns at every corner.
Sea Life Aquarium
Not far from Shrek’s swamp is another world of its own: an underwater kingdom replete with curious aquatic life to amaze the whole family. With over 180,000 sea creatures contained in its walls, this aquarium is bound to keep the kids amused. Entrancing jelly fish, stingrays and funny clownfish will cloud all thoughts of school and the dissipating summer heat.
Madame Tussauds
Head north of The Marylebone hotel to find the world-famous Madame Tussauds - a waxwork museum featuring all of your kid’s favourite celebrities, sports stars and leading figures. Have tea with the queen, battle Darth Vader and sing with The Beetles on your visit. This London attraction houses over 250 wax figures to take pictures with and keep everyone amused for hours.
