Where to find the best trad sessions in Dublin
Fancy a bit of live music in the city?
If there’s one thing we love in Ireland, it’s a good trad session. And if you’re in Dublin, there are plenty to be found, whether you’re visiting the city for the night or have lived there your whole life. We’ve rounded up the best spots to try if you want to listen live.
The Cobblestone, Smithfield
This pub in Smithfield has music 7 nights a week and is, according to Publin.ie, “probably the best pub in Dublin for sessions”. The music starts early on the weekends, at 1.30pm, so it’s a great option for people who want to catch a session in the afternoon.
Devitts of Camden Street
This traditional pub is great for music, and also very close to Whelans, if you’re catching a gig afterwards. Trad sessions are held every Thursday, Friday and Saturday, from 9.30pm.
O’Donoghue’s, Merrion Row
One of the most beloved pubs in the city, O’Donoghue’s is great for a drink at any time, but particularly during one of its sessions. Christy Moore and the Dubliners have played on numerous occasions, and sessions are held every night of the week.
The International, Wicklow Street
Perhaps better known for its excellent comedy, The International is also a great spot for music, with something on every night of the week. It might not be strictly trad, but there’s surely something for everyone in one of its different rooms.
