Autumn is all about changes – from sunshine to falling leaves, and from summer shorts to cosy knits. It’s a yearly transition we all know too well and although rooftop day drinking may be off the cards, this is the perfect season for coffee.

1.    Ole & Steen, Marylebone

London’s love affair with Scandi bakeries continues with this outpost of Danish chain Ole & Steen. Inside, the interior is super-slick and definitely not hygge, although the food is most certainly the star: wonderfully dark chocolate swirls, apple pie, savoury rolls and seductive cinnamon slices are available daily to go alongside your coffee.

2.    Grind & Co., Shoreditch

The Grind is rapidly taking over London - having started with a sole site in Shoreditch, it has since opened new cafes in Soho, Holborn, London Bridge, Clerkenwell and Royal Exchange. Hipster staff, great coffee and offbeat interiors make each cafe a destination in their own right, plus evenings see them transform into bars. The espresso martinis (made with their own coffee blend) are some of the best the city has to offer.

Slip in for weekday breakfast or weekend brunch, pump up your afternoon or enjoy a post-work warm-down over a long black or flat white.

3.    Caravan, King’s Cross  

Located just a stone’s throw away from Kings Cross, St Pancras Station and the newly opened Coal’s Drops Yard, Caravan is a stylish spot for a coffee and a cake before catching a train. Famous for its brilliant brunches, the brand are no strangers to the perfect coffee serve. 

Order a flat white whilst you enjoy a morning brioche bun (a flaky pastry filled with custard and a daily-changing fruit such as plum or black cherry). If you want to recreate this coffee experience at home, there’s also the option to buy your own beans, roasted at the brands Roastery HQ in North London. Caravan only use 100 percent compostable takeaway cups and straws and offer a discount for anyone who brings a re-usable cup too – so you’re doing your bit for the environment whilst sipping on something truly delicious.

4.    Dalloway Terrace

Located in the heart of London’s West End, Dalloway Terrace is the perfect balance of both comfort and luxury. Set within the cosy corners of The Bloomsbury’s ground floor terrace, the restaurant is a beautiful spot for afternoon tea or a quick coffee with friends. For an alternative to a classic, try one of the restaurant’s speciality lattes. Enjoy turmeric, chai or matcha in your blend for a healthy and flavoursome drink.

The restaurant has transformed into a winter wonderland for the festive season, providing a magical setting for coffee, cocktails or something delicious from their seasonal menu. 

5.    Catalyst, Holborn

Located a 10 minutes’ stroll from Central London’s famous caffeine district Leather Lane, Catalyst is a serene and stripped-back Scandi-style café with all-day appeal. They serve an array of different beans and blends to suit even the most discerning of coffee drinkers. The food’s good food too, with a selection of sweet and savoury combos to team with your hot beverage. What’s more, Catalyst opens early and closes late on cocktail-fuelled Thursdays and Fridays.

6.    Farm Girl, Notting Hill

Home-grown and home-produced is the mantra at Stevie Parle’s corner of wellness. If the idea of ‘healthy eating’ fills your heart with dread, then fear not as the enchanting Notting Hill café Farm Girl, is here to change your mind. The Aussie-born café offers its diners’ colourful interiors and non-stop sunny service, all complimented by a healthy menu rich with vibrant, zingy and fresh ingredients.
