Fancy abseiling off of Croke Park?
Once-in-a-lifetime experience at the iconic stadium
If you were around Croke Park on Monday (or on social media), you may have seen a rather odd sight… abseilers! While people walking along the Skyline have been a common addition to the stadium, it’s considerably rarer to see people dangling from the roof.
But people were indeed abseiling from the rafters of the Dublin landmark. It’s all in aid of the ISPCC, who are holding the Croke Park Abseil in October. Participants will fundraise a minimum of €200 in order to take part, in what’s sure to be a once-in-a-lifetime thrill, particularly for GAA fans.
To kick off the campaign, Fergal D’Arcy from Today FM and writers from the websites Joe.ie and Her.ie tried their hands at the challenge. Have a look at the video below and you’ll get an idea of how nervewracking the drop is…

Of course, it’s all for a fantastic cause…
“Childline is the only 24-hour listening service which seeks to support and empower children and young people in Ireland. Last year, Childline had conversations with over 420,000 children and young people who contacted the service for help and advice with wide-ranging serious issues, including abuse, violence, exploitation, addiction and suicide. That is an astounding 1,150 contacts by children a day, on issues that no child should encounter.
Raising money from the ISPCC Abseil can help us make a real difference. As little as €10 will pay for 10 text conversations to our Talk Text service while €300 will sponsor a child’s mentoring visits for one month. €500 will help to recruit, select and train a Childline volunteer.”
The Croke Park Abseil will be held on Saturday 1st and Sunday 2nd October 2016. You can find out more about the abseil and register on this link.
