Summer Shopping Near The Kensington

Our favourite places to shop near The Kensington

Set just a stone’s throw from some of the best areas for shopping in the capital, The Kensington is the perfect place from which to launch a spending spree

(The) Kings Road

Head south from The Kensington and you’ll hit the world-famous Kings Road, teaming with shops and boutiques perfect for whiling away an afternoon. Towards Sloane Square shoppers can find big brands and designers like Monica Vinader, Michael Kors, Links of London, COS, Dubarry and more. Stopping off at Partridges (The Queen’s green grocer) on Duke of York square for a coffee is a must.

As the distance from Sloane Square increases, so to do the independent boutiques, the infamous ‘Ad Hoc’ harks back to the road’s bohemian origins with quirky fashion and party gear, well worth a visit even if it’s not quite your cup of tea. The unmistakably modern Poliform is a one stop shop for original contemporary furniture, whilst William Yeoward features cutting edge interior design.

Knightsbridge

This shopping mecca is home to two of London’s most famous department stores. No shopping experience would be complete without a visit to the luxurious opulence of perhaps the world’s most famous shop, Harrods. Selling everything from the latest technology to high fashion, jewellery and perfume, Harrods is known the world over for a reason.

Harvey Nichols, just down the road towards Mayfair is a similar, if more understated affair. The department store’s 5th floor food court is the perfect place to take on lunch from one of their restaurants (anything from Burger & Lobster to Kurabuta). Once refreshed and reinvigorated you’ll be ready to venture out to the flagship stores of Sloane Street - home to some of the biggest names in the business, from Gucci, Jimmy Choo and BVLGARI to Moncler, Boodles and Omega.

Notting Hill

Venture a little further north to discover the eclectic world of Notting Hill, made famous by the Richard Curtis film of the same name. Portobello Road is a bustling treasure trove of vintage clothing, antiques, jewellery and of course the famous ‘Travel Bookshop’ – now a souvenir store. Take a stroll off the beaten path to Westbourne Grove to unwind and enjoy brunch at the likes of Granger
