Enjoy the sun at Dublin’s secret al fresco terrace

A sun trap for the hot summer days

Eat outside in Dublin at the sunny patio at The Croke Park hotel

With temperatures in Dublin set to record breaking levels this week, we all want to find a place outside where we can bask in the sunshine while enjoying excellent food and perhaps a glass of wine. But, aside from Dublin’s beautiful parks, there aren’t too many spots in the city where you can grab a bite to eat in the fresh air.

One of the finest is The Sideline Bar and Bistro in The Croke Park. With a spacious, stylish terrace bar with comfortable, plush seats and wide wooden tables, the outdoor area is the best place you could ask for on a sunny day. You have views of Croke Park stadium, as well as the canal, and as the day drifts into dusk the fairy lights illuminate the space.

And whether you want a light bite to eat in the heat, or a more hearty meal, you’ll find something that will suit you on the all day menu. The classic sandwiches feature fillings like home baked ham and roast beef with crispy onion, whereas the gourmet sandwiches offer items likeNew York style pastrami on a seeded roll, or West Cork crab on Guinness bread. There’s also a gorgeous grilled flatbread with hummus, falafel, olives and grilled vegetables.

If you want something more filling but still healthy, the turkey burger comes with guacamole, paprika sweet potato wedges, salsa and healthy coleslaw. The Sideline Hereford burger is a little more sinful, with a patty stuffed with Carrigaline cheese, and topped with crispy bacon and mushroom with chunky chips on the side.

There’s a great kids menu too, with fish and chips and bangers and mash to keep the little ones happy.

The daily specials are great value for money and change every day – the weekendHalf thyme roasted chicken with seasonal vegetables is a great Sunday lunch, and not too rich for the summer sun.

There’s a full bar, of course, so you can enjoy a perfectly blended G&T or an ice cold glass of rosé in the sunshine. There are also fresh juices courtesy of The Juicery available until 6pm every day.
