How to spend the Bank Holiday in Dublin
What to do in the capital
Everyone loves a Bank Holiday. When the three-day weekend rolls around, everyone is in great spirits, making plans to get the most out of the minibreak. And there’s plenty to keep you occupied in Dublin on this June Bank Holiday. Here are five things you can do this weekend (whatever the weather!)
Dublin Port River Fest
From Saturday to Monday, the Dublin Port River Fest will be taking over the River Liffey, from the Sean O’Casey bridge, along North Wall Quay right through to Dublin Port and into Dublin Bay. What will you find? Exhilerating watersports from ThunderCat racing, boat tours, and classes in Stand Up Paddleboarding, kayaking and sailing. If you’d rather stay dry, take it all in from the shore (or wander around the open air food market).

Bloom
The biggest garden festival in Ireland, Bloom takes place in the Phoenix Park, Dublin’s very own garden. You’ll find amazing creations from top garden designers, floral displays and plenty of inspiration for those with green fingers. There’s also a great selection of stalls and fresh, local food for sale. Keep an eye for Bloom Fringe events in the city, too.

International Harbour Food Festival
Out in Dun Laoghaire, this two day foodie extravaganza is a celebration of world cuisine. This free event will feature over 24 different food stalls, and there’ll even be historical reinactments taking place. If the sun is shining, it’ll be a beautiful spot to be.

Take the Viking Challenge Trail at the National Museum Archaeology
If, however, the sun isn’t shining and you want to head inside, the National Museum on Kildare Street is always a safe bet. And if you have kids to entertain, they’ll love the Viking Challenge Trail taking place on the Saturday. Kids will learn more about the Vikings by taking part in this guided activity sheet trail, and you can stick around afterwards to explore the rest of the museum.
Details: 3rd June
Take a tour of Croke Park
Are you a GAA fan? This behind the scenes, all access tour of the iconic stadium will be a dream come true. You’ll visit the team dressing rooms, warm up areas, media centre, VIP area, and even go pitch-side via the players' tunnel. The tour includes access to the GAA Museum, too. If you’re really brave, you can take the Etihad Skyline tour, for amazing views over the city.
