To avoid the never ending cold, step out for a cultural afternoon and tick off some local art galleries to keep you visually entertained
The Kensington is surrounded by some of London’s most renowned galleries, here are few that are definitely worth a visit
Saatchi Gallery
Having relocated from North London to the Southbank, the Saatchi Gallery finally set up home in Chelsea, just a short walk from the Kensington. Saatchi holds some of the world’s most wonderful contemporary art and has exhibited work from world famous artists such as Damien Hirst and Andy Warhol. They even hosted the internationally acclaimed Rolling Stones exhibition in 2016.
Victoria and Albert Museum
Luckily for The Kensington, the hotel sits just down the road from the world’s leading museum of Art and Design, The Victoria and Albert Museum. If you are mad enough not to have visited already, be prepared to be captivated before you even set foot in the building. Ranging from paintings to furniture, theatre to fashion, the V&A has one of the most diverse and wonderful collections worldwide.
Everard Read
If you like African art, this is the gallery for you. An unexpected gem in the heart of Chelsea, Everard Read is a haven of colour, texture and personality. It is Africa’s oldest commercial art gallery, with sister galleries in Johannesburg, Cape Town and Franschhoek.
Purdy Hicks Gallery
Currently hosting Anna Revilä’s first solo exhibition in the UK, Purdy Hicks is committed to exhibiting the best of international contemporary art by established and emerging artists. Michael Hoppen Gallery
The Micheal Hoppen Gallery was founded on a passion for photography. Situated over three floors of a beautiful Chelsea townhouse, photographers can display their art with absolute finesse. As a result of a solid relationship with Japan the Hoppen Gallery has one of the most extensive collections of post-war Japanese photography outside Asia. It is an intriguing delight for a modern art lover.
