Irish Design Afternoon Tea at The Westbury
Afternoon Tea is a favourite at The Westbury, and now it has a great new theme.
The Gallery at The Westbury, with its captivating privately owned Art collection and sumptuous Afternoon Tea, is a Dublin Institution. The Westbury has now created a brand new menu in support of their corporate partnership with Irish Design 2015.
The magnificent Gallery is currently displaying pieces from some of Ireland’s top designers and artists. Now, you can sit in amongst unique pieces of art while experiencing this truly creative afternoon tea inspired by the work of local Irish makers.
The dishes pay homage to pieces featured in the PORTFOLIO: Critical Selection 2015-2016, which is also available to view in the gallery, alongside some of the pieces themselves.
Tatjana Upelniece-Kiselova, executive pastry chef at The Westbury, has outdone herself with the menu. “As a chef it is fantastic to have the opportunity to work with established Irish designers. Taking inspiration from jewellery, to woodwork, to porcelain and glasswork we used a range of ingredients and techniques to create a truly bespoke afternoon tea that showcased the best of Irish design.”
There’s an Earl Grey cheesecake, served on a crunchy base, inspired by Migration Reactive Bullseye, a glasswork by Karl Harron. The piping on top mirrors the unique markings featured on his piece.
A sour cream mousse with blackberry cremoux emulates Angela O’Kelly’s Long Round Sculputral Neckpiece.
A slab of chocolate atop an éclair with lemon curd mirrors the chest of drawers in walnut and ash by Cillian O’Súilleabháin, while the wood inspiration continues with a dulcey panna cotta, mango and banana caramel pot.
One of the most impressive pieces is the blueberry roulade, chocolate and mascarpone chantilly, marbled in beatutiful shades of blue, which mirrors the equisite ceramic piece by Jack Doherty, Duo Porcelain.
Karen Hennessy, Chief Executive of Irish Design 2015, is delighted with the partnership between Irish Design 2015 and both The Westbury the Doyle Collection.
“The Doyle Collection’s support of art and culture made them an ideal accommodation partner. In particular, I am excited to see how the work of Irish designers and makers has inspired the creation of the Irish Design Afternoon Tea; this in itself is another example of how design infiltrates all areas of our lives. The use of different ingredients to develop textures, colours and shapes which echo the work of Irish designers and makers is an artistic achievement in itself.”
While you’re at The Westbury, be sure to visit PORTFOLIO @ Solomon, where you can view work from the Design & Craft Council of Ireland’s PORTFOLIO programme. There are exhibitions running throughout the year, and it’s an ideal opportunity to pick up a one-of-a-kind piece from an emerging designer.
The Irish Design Afternoon Tea is available now for €45 per person (€55 per person with champagne). Advance bookings are advised and can be made through the hotel on 01 646 3311.
You can also book an overnight package, Best of Irish Design 2015, which includes the Irish Design Afternoon Tea for two, as well as one night’s luxury accommodation and a full Irish breakfast. The package is available from €350 and you can read more about it here.
